According to the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred at approximately 2:47 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at a residence along South Dakota Highway 13 near 483rd Avenue. Emergency crews from the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office, Elkton Fire Department, Elkton Ambulance, Brookings Ambulance, and North Memorial Air Service responded to the scene after receiving reports of an accident involving a Case 1845B skid loader.
When first responders arrived, Brown was found suffering from critical injuries. The preliminary investigation indicated that he had been operating the skid loader as part of preparations for a future construction project at family property when he was ejected from the equipment and became trapped underneath it. Individuals at the scene acted quickly to remove him before emergency personnel arrived, but despite lifesaving efforts, Brown could not be revived and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Brookings County Sheriff’s Office and the Brookings County Coroner continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident. Authorities have not released any additional details as the investigation remains ongoing.
